I maintain that the Mark 2 is the most beautiful American car of all time.

And then we decided that Function is more important than Form. And eventually the Aztek happened. Here in ‘Murica, we call that progress.

yes especially pre war cars. For me the 20’s and 30’s were peak automotive beauty.

There can be a very solid argument made for that statement

I agree. Some of the finest cars ever made
![]() 11/03/2015 at 15:56 |

Yep. Everything has to be designed for aerodynamics now. It sucks for the most part.

Best part about the disco was the mass effect 3 music used in top gear’s review

No they are not. Look at the awkward headlights and bulky A-pillars. Old cars rule.

Every car sold new today looked better 40 years ago. No exceptions.

I dunno, pure function has given us some awfully nice forms. It’s when committees interfere with such forms that things go off the tracks.

Yep. The WRX / STi. Unimog. 918. P85D. And many many many others. Some are sexy, some are more akin to being more like actual sex, raw, ugly, but fun as all hell.

/thread. You killed it.

A lot of 60s and 70s style was influenced by aerodynamics, as well as function. There was just fewer requirements in place to make form and function at odds with eachother. Big grills, chrome bumpers, fuselage body styles, tailfins, were all both aesthetic but also functional (according to the models being used at the time, a lot of which weren’t right) features on the cars.

lol god dammit. Maybe we’ll set that dial at 45 years because It’s apparently not 2010 anymore.

1975 was not a particularly good year for domestic US cars.

Lawdy I love me some Mk2 Continental. Green grass in deserts pisses me off though, so I’m conflicted about this pic.

not a particularly good year for any cars honestly. For me, 1965-70 is the sweet spot.

*Just a remider that cars used to not give a shit about pedestrian safety and conserving the planets resources*
![]() 11/03/2015 at 17:34 |

Pedestrian safety should be solved by having more safety conscious pedestrians.

More beautiful back then? And also killed their drivers a lot more. And had inferior tire compunds. But hey they were beautiful? :P
Really though, thats a nice car and there are modern nice cars too.
